Aurora Public Health Consulting specializes in research and policy consulting for communicable diseases, focusing on STI/HIV prevention, reproductive health, and adolescent health for government and nonprofit organizations.

Dawne (Aurora) DiOrio, MPA, CPH, is the principal and founder of Aurora Public Health Consulting providing research consultation, writing, policy and program development, and analysis services to governmental and non-profit organizations. In this role she recently served as lead writer and subject matter expert for the update of CDC’s 2001 STD Program Operations Guidelines (expected publication 2025 entitled “Program Operation Considerations for STI Prevention”). Ms. DiOrio is the host of the STI Research Roundup podcast on Spotify and will provide content for a new website, This Week in Sexual Health, beginning in 2025.

Ms. DiOrio earned a Master of Public Affairs from Indiana University School of Public & Environmental Affairs with a dual concentration in Policy Analysis and Public Management. She has worked in sexual and reproductive health with an emphasis on underserved and marginalized populations for nearly 40 years and is a nationally-recognized expert on program operations for successful STI programs and congenital syphilis prevention. For 21 years Ms. DiOrio was a Public Health Advisor (field assignee) with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Division of STD Prevention, Disease Intervention & Response Branch, with various field placements working with local and state STI programs. During her federal service Ms. DiOrio served on multiple details and deployments including team lead for the 2019 Measles Outbreak response in Sullivan County, NY, team lead for drafting the Disease Intervention section of CDC’s upcoming (expected 2025) Notice of Funding Announcement for state, tribal, local, and territorial STI programs, and as an author of CDC’s “Recommendations for Partner Services Programs for HIV Infection, Syphilis, Gonorrhea and Chlamydial Infections, 2008” (as Dawne Rekas). She served on two deployments during CDC’s 2020 – 2022 COVID-19 outbreak response, one with the Vaccine Task Force and one with the Case Investigation and Contact Tracing team.
